Young Engineers - Create Your Own PodWalk

PodWalks are being developed internationally by various professions (architects, historians, engineers) to allow participants to undertake self guided tours of significant landmarks.

As part of Australian Engineering Week, the University of New South Wales and Engineers Australia Heritage Committee are running the first of a series of PodWalk workshops specifically for young engineers. The workshop will include a tour of The Rocks specifically focussing on the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Dawes Battery by the award winning author Michael Clarke.

This workshop is a unique opportunity to learn about the origins of our city and communicate this in a medium to other young engineers and the general public.

The half day workshop will include both a tour of The Rocks and a presentation of available technology and conclude by 2pm. Participants will form groups and have access to software and support to develop their PodWalk in the weeks following the workshop. The winning entries will be utilised for a Young Engineers Australia Sydney (self-guided) walking tour to be held later in the year.

The event is primarily aimed at young people. However, it will be the 'prototype' for the development of walks for other locations, based on the model of joining people with the right knowledge and skills in the fields of:

·            heritage knowledge

·            the technology; and

·            networks to contact the potential audience.

Date:                 Saturday 2nd August

Time:                10:30am – 2:00pm

Participants:             You and your friends (we can find some if you can’t)

Equipment:             Camera and note pad. Video Filming equipment if available.

Location:             Conference Room - Office of NSW State Records. 2 Globe Street, The Rocks

Enquiries:             Andrew Pratley a.pratley@gmail.com
