Is Preservation Always Possible

For those organisations like the RTA and RIC who own and manage heritage timber structures such bridges, wharves, and large timber buildings, the maintenance and preservation of these heritage works is becoming ever more difficult. The environmental and social pressures of obtaining large pieces of hardwood timber in large quantities is limiting the preservation of these structures. Can we keep it up both in terms of cost and material ?

Is the preservation of timber structures 'sustainable' ?

This will be just one topic to be discussed at the next Engineering Heritage Conference to be held in Sydney - September 2005.
